The Company

Doncaster Alcohol Services was established as a charity in 1982 when a small group for interested parties formed a Committee and applied for pump-priming monies to establish an Alcohol Counselling Service, serviced by counsellors who were trained and managed by the organisation. 

That counselling background has always been an important part of the values of the organisation. Over the years the services on offer increased and developed, as new sources of funding were obtained that supported various projects related to addressing the needs of people with alcohol related problems.

More recently DAS integrated with the Drugs services run by Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), and in 2016 RDaSH with their partner organisation ADS was successful in obtaining a contract in Doncaster as the Aspire Drug and Alcohol Service. DAS was awarded a sub-contract within this, to provide the Single Point of Access (SPOA) for clients as they present to the Aspire service. Staff from all three organisations form the SPOA team, which is based at Rosslyn House on Thorne Road. As well as the Assessment and early interventions,  there is a flourishing day service, where the principles of Recovery are promoted through a wide range of groups and activities, in which clients, volunteers and mentors are fully involved.

The current Aspire contract runs up to 2020, with a potential for two further one-year extensions that would take it up to 2022. DAS has survived in a difficult economic climate, and this is largely due to its sound governance and management foundations, its willingness to adapt and change, and  to the commitment and professionalism of its staff group and Board of Directors.

Due to the imminent retirement of our current Doncaster Alcohol Services Chief Executive, we are currently looking to identify a suitably experienced and committed individual to further manage and develop our organisation and to ensure the delivery of the Doncaster Alcohol Services sub-contract with Aspire. As well as staff management, the successful individual will have responsibility for setting budgets, monitoring expenditure and financial accountability via the auditors. Additionally, we are looking for an applicant capable of developing the practice and management of the project whilst being responsible for the clinical governance to the Doncaster Alcohol Services Executive Committee.
