A message from the Chair of the trustees

Ashgate Hospicecare provides pain relief and symptom control to people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as emotional and spiritual support and social care for patients and their families. At Ashgate Hospicecare we are proud of the work that we do across the whole of our community.

With recent research indicating that of the 300,000 people living in North Derbyshire, over 2,000* have palliative care needs and across the UK, seven out of every ten people with a terminal illness do not get all the care and support they need, our work is more relevant than ever.

Over recent years Ashgate Hospicecare has seen transformational growth, development and improvement in our hospice facilities. But our work doesn’t stop there. As well as an environment for excellent care in North Derbyshire our staff also provide support to many patients in their own home. In 2015 Ashgate Hospicecare achieved an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’ from the Care Quality Commission and, for the first time in 2016, the hospice prepared a five year strategy based on our knowledge of health need compared with our current provision; acknowledging the national and local influences on health. This strategy was shared with patients, staff groups, commissioners and partners for feedback and the final version confirmed our strategic goals to be: Care, Innovation and Influence. In short, our clinical services teams aim to deliver the highest quality of care and share our expertise widely with other people to influence high standards of care in all areas.

These are certainly exciting times for Ashgate Hospicecare, but the environment in which we operate is not without its challenges. With this in mind, we are now looking to appoint an outstanding individual with suitable skills and experience to lead our team through the next stage of Ashgate’s story. Building on the inspirational leadership of our outgoing Chief Executive Lucy Nickson, we are looking for an individual capable of demonstrating the same level of commitment and passion for our work as that demonstrated by every member of our team and our high calibre Board of Trustees. We hope that you are as excited by this stimulating opportunity as we are and we look forward to meeting you during this process.

Good luck with your application.
